HERITAGE FLORIDA JEWISH NEWS, DECEMBER 23, 2011 PAGE 9A By Gloria Yousha -- Call 407-657-9405 or 407-834-8787 Controlled chaos... It all began last Tuesday with a weak and sore left arm. I wondered about it (but not fearfully) and phoned my primary physician. His nurse told me his instructions were to go to any walk-in clinic and have my arm x-rayed. The next morning I did just that, but because of my "advanced" age (39), the doctor on duty said I should have an EKG instead. When I told him I had an EKG just four weeks ago, he took one anyway and faxed his results over to my primary physician. Upon comparing the two results, my physician said I should check myself into the Florida Hospital South Emergency Room ASAP! (OK... what started out as probably nothing, had me scared about a heart attack now.) I rushed to the Florida Hospital South Emergency Room, was given a third EKG and placed on a gurney in the hall of the Emergency Room because no rooms were available, even though, at that point, I was officially admitted. My spouse rushed over from his job. My friend, member of our community, GERRY ECKSTEIN, was with me for moral support. (Was I going to die?) Well... after having to endure about eight hours on that gurney in the hallway of the Emergency Room, I knew I was strong, especially as I had nothing to eat all day! I was given a dry chicken salad sandwich in the hall at about 7 p.m. (My thought was "maybe I'll lose an ounce!") Just picture it... all day, most of it with no people for support.., no books, no TV, nothing to do but sit in an ugly hospital gown on that gurney in the hallway. There was one diversion, however! A naked man kept appearing down the hall and was constantly interrupted and ushered back to his room by hospital security. (Gee, why didn't they leave him alone?) Finally, long after my spouse and friend had been en- couraged by me to leave, I was finally taken to a cubicle... not a room because none were available. This cubicle was a tiny room of curtains in a "transitional" ward. I was told I would stay there until a hospital room be- came available. (The room finally became available the next evening, about one hour before I was scheduled to be discharge. I refused it!) At least the cubicle had a TV and a very nice staff of nurses and techs. One nurse especially, was a ray of sunshine in an otherwise dim situation for me. Her name is TERESA BARRIEAU. Her presence lit up the room. She was helpful, caring and proficient. Thank goodness for her! While there, I was also visited by our own Rabbi E. ARNOLD SIEGEL, a community rabbi with the Community Chaplaincy, a program of Greater Orlando Board of Rabbis, Jewish Fed- eration of Greater Orlando, Hospice of the Comforter, and Jewish Family Services of Greater Orlando. His visit was truly wonderful and inspiring. I am grateful to him. I am also grateful to the organizations who sponsor his hospital visits. The economy is affecting these fine organizations just as we are all being affected. If you can give a donation, no matter how small, it would be greatly appreciated and put to good use. You can reach JFS at 407-644-7593. I am home from the hospital now and will go for a stress test and heart ultrasound as an out-patient. (I am alive and well and, best if all, I LOST THREE POUNDS!) Wow. I'm speechless... This is so special it deserves repeat mentions.., and will get it! On Sunday, Jan. 8, beginning at 2 p.m., the Seniors Group of Congregation Ohev Shalom, along with the COS Sisterhood and Men's Club, is inviting everyone to what they call "the show of the decade," a live production of "The Rat Pack." (Now, you and I know that the members of the Rat Pack are deceased... Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., and Dean Martin. So who are these guys?) They are ARMANDO DIAZ, STEVE ROMAN and FELIZ J. DENEAU, JR., respectively. They make up the Central Florida Rat Pack, a tribute to Frank, Sammy and Dean. They have been entertaining fans all over Florida and the United States. They have received wonderful accolades for their performances. The Central Florida Rat Pack will pay tribute to some of the greatest entertainers of our time by recreating their performances on stage. It is a tribute show you just don't want to miss! The cost of the program is $10 per person and includes refreshments. Reservations are needed and can be made by the individual couple or by a table of five couples for $90. Phone MERYL in the COS office, 407-298-4650 to reserve your space and make checks out to COS Seniors. Only 200 people can be accommodated.., so hurry! If you have any questions or need directions, phone BERNY RAFF at 407-657-8215. Shades of blueberry pie... (The blueberry pie thing is a joke between myself and the Rev. AL SHARPTON.) Oy Vay... liars, jokers, cheaters, narcissists... I repeat... Oy Vay! As famous singer, CAROLE KING, said on the "Morning Joe" TV show recently, "When you vote, use common sense, people. Use COMMON SENSE!" Armando Diaz as Frank Sinatra; Steve Roman as Sammy Davis, Jr.; and Felix J. Deneau Jr. as Dean Martin. It's Chanukah time... In the spirit of the holiday season, a wonderful cam- paign has launched in celebration of Chanukah and life... Miracle Match. The Yeshiva University famed Maccabeats, a hit A'capella group, partnered with Gift Of Life Bone Marrow Founda- tion to create modern day Maccabees across the country by encouraging all to be tested to find out if they are a bone marrow donor match. My hat is off to GREGG SCHWARTZ, a customer service representative at the University Plaza Publix Market #1387 in Winter Park. Not only is he efficient and quick.., he is very kind and pleasant as well. I think Gregg's manager, NANCY COLON, should know... and now she will! One for the road... Izzy goes to meet his new son-in-law to be, Benjy. He says to Benjy, "So nu, tell me Benjy my boy, what do you do?" "I study the Torah," he replies. "But Benjy, you are going to marry my daughter, how are you going to feed and house her?" "No problem," says Benjy, "I study Torah and it says God will provide." "But you will have children, how will you educate them?" asks Izzy. "No problem," says Benjy, "I study Torah and it says God will provide." When Izzy returns home, his wife anxiously asks him what Benjy is like. "Well," says Izzy, "he's a lovely boy. I only just met him and he already thinks I'm God.
