HERITAGE FLORIDA JEWISH NEWS, NOVEMBER 9, 2007 PAGE 11A By Gloria Yousha -- Call 407-657-9405 or 407-834-8787 This is a bit of good news According to CNN news, the Iraqi leadership at a military camp east of Baghdad gave the U.S. military a $1,000 check two weeks ago to aid victims of California's wildfires, a U.S. Marine said Monday. "In the months I've been here, I have never been so moved," Col. Darel Maxfield, the senior U.S. military official at Camp Besmaya, said in an e-mail. Many of the Marines at that military camp are from Camp Pendleton, a U.S. Marine Corps base about 38 miles from downtown San Diego in California, he said. Many of the Golden State's most vitriolic fires have been in San Diego County, including the Witch and the Harris fires. Maxfield said the Iraqi leadership at the camp called a meeting Thursday evening to gather Iraqi soldiers and coalition members. At the meeting, Col. Abbas, the Iraqi commander there, gave a short speech, thanking all his "American brothers" for their role in his country. He then presented a sealed envelope with the check, Maxfield said. What nerve! I hear that diplomats are angry that they are being forced to go to Iraq, a war zone that is very dangerous. Several hundred U.S. diplomats expressed resentment last Wednesday over a new State Department policy that could force them to serve in Iraq or risk losing their jobs. One veteran staffer told bosses: "lit] is a potential death sentence and you know it. Who will raise our children if we are dead or wounded?" Oh great! These diplomats are supposed to go wherever they are needed. They get paid a let of money and they have prestige that goes with the job. How dare they say no, they won't go because it is a danger- ous place? Do our troops have the same option? I think not! Don't quit your day job! Usually, this sentence is used in a derogatory way but not this time. I just watched our own LYN PAYNE win $500,000 on the television show "Who Wants To Be a Millionaire" and I am worried that she might quit her job as editor of the Heritage now that she has all this money! Lyn has been such a joy to workwith, always kind, sweet and fun-loving. She is also a good editor who knows her stuff. In otherwords, someone I can respect. I don't want her to leave Heritage now that she has become (like Horace Van- dergelder in "Hello Dolly") a half-a-millionaire. On Oct. 31, Lyn was intro- duced to the New York audi- Lyn Payne ence and also the millions of viewers like me. Her first words to Meredith Vieira, host of the show, were, "Let's have fun." This self-proclaimed "trivia buff" seemed to just sail along, answering question after question correctly and went all the way to the million dollar question but decided (wisely) not to take the audience advice and she walked instead with a cool $500,000. She also blew kisses to the audience a first, I under- stand. On Nov. 1, Lyn continued, this time referring to her children, when she said"I'm ready to show em!" She also displayed quite a sense of humOr when she was asked by Meredith early on, what plans she had for her winnings. Her answer was that she was driving a '92 vehicle, but now she may buy herself a '93 model! A phiase was coined on that television show "a Lyn Payne question." Gee I hope life is full of those types of questions for me! Please vote for him Five-year-old BEN ZABIHI, an American whose grandparents have a home in Staten Island and Central Florida, and who lives with his mother, ARIELLE, father, RAFI, and brothers Ben Zabihi JACOB and EDAN, in Israel, has been entered in the latest GAP contest. Ben attends kindergarten near his home in Raanana, north of Tel Aviv. His favorite sports are soc- cer and basketball. He also loves to color (me, too) and sing along to the songs from the sound track of "High School Musical." (Disney really scored a hit with that one. It is the favorite of kids worldwide!) You can vote for Ben by going to on Nov. 20. He is awfully cute! I think I will cast my vote as well. A fabulous concert is almost happening The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra of Norway will perform a concert on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. as the first offering of Orlando's Festival of Orchestras. The concert will be held at the Bob Carr Performing Arts Centre. ANDREW LITTON will conduct and ANDRE WATTS will be the piano soloist. This is the 24th season for the Festival of Orchestras not to be missed! One for the road Rifka goes to her son David's house and rings the doorbell. When the maid lets her in, she is surprised to find her daughter- in-law Sarah lying on the couch, totally naked. Soft music is playing and the aroma of expensive perfume fills the air. "Sarah, what are you doing?" Rifka asks. "I'm waiting for David to come home from work," replies Sarah. "But you're naked!" says Rifka. "I know," says Sarah, "this is my love dress. David loves me to wear this dress. It excites him no end. Every time he sees me in this dress, he instantly becomes virile and makes love to me for hours on end. Why don't you try it with your husband?" Rifka goes home, undresses, has a bath and puts on her best perfume. Then, still naked, she dims the lights, puts on a romantic CD and lies on the settee waiting for her husband to arrive. Rifka's spouse, Ben, comes home and sees Rifka lying there, ever so provocatively. "What on earth are you doing, Rifka?" he asks. "This is my love dress,", she whispers, sensually. "It needs ironing," he says. One niore for the road It was a hot day. Moshe was sitting in the shopping center drinking from a bottle of Evian water when his friend Benny came over and sat next to him. Benny looked at the bottle in Moshe's hand and asked, "Do you ever wonder why people spend more than one dollar on such little bottles of water?" "No," replied Moshe. "Well," continued Benny, "Try spelling Evian backwards."
