PAGE 4A By Ben Cohen HERITAGE FLORIDA JEWISH NEWS, NOVEMBER 7, 2014 The 'chickenshitgate' fallout for America, Israel, and the Middle East obtuse, blustering, pompous, and 'Aspergery.'" (For those unclear as to what that last term means, it's a pejorative description for people with Asperger syndrome, a form of autism, and it's as nasty as calling someone a "retard." Remember that next time you hear another kumbaya, "let's heal" speech from Obama.) You have to think that sooner or later, the ad- ministration will join the chorus of confirmed Israel-haters by labeling Netanyahu as a"baby killer" and a "war criminal." Sure, the Obama officials will say that the Israelis started it, by citing the injudicious comments about Secretary of State John Kerry uttered in private by Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon. But Ya'alon was man enough to apologize for what he said, and that still didn't stop the administration from pursu- ing a private vendetta against him, blocking him from meeting with key officials like Vice President Joe Biden during his recent visit to Washington. And while the Israelis wish they could turn back the clock on Ya'alon's advice to Kerry to "take his Nobel Prize and leave us alone," Obama's appointees see nothing wrong with insulting Netanyahu in such a grotesque manner because, you see, they are Right with a rolling, upper case "R," and therefore anything goes. I've argued many times in this column that, as far as Israel is concerned, the Obama ad- ministration is a lost cause. The only question now is how much damage they will do before Obama departs the White House--a day that can't come soon enough, frankly. The immediate danger lies on two fronts. First, the Palestinians. Any doubts that the Obama administration believes that Israel is responsible for the stalemate with the Palestin- ians will have been dispelled by Coldberg's rev- elations. As far as Obama, Kerry, and company are concerned, the primary problem is Israel's insistence in building new housing units in its undivided capital, Jerusalem. Their impatience could reach the point where thee U.S. no longer Naftali Bennett, Israel's economy minister, got it 100 percent right in a Facebook post- ing just a few hours after the latest blow to American-Israeli relations--aka"chickenshit- gate"-- surfaced in the media. Responding to the anonymous "senior Obama administration" official who told The Atlantic correspondent Jeffrey Goldberg that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was a "chickenshit," Bennett said, "Cursing the prime minister and calling him names is an insult not just to him but to the millions of Israeli citizens and Jews across the globe. The leader of Syria who slaughtered 150,000 people was not awarded the name'chickenshit.' Neither was the leader of Saudi Arabia who stones women and homosexuals or the leader of Iran who murders freedom protestors." I also would have added Qatar into the mix, as that terror-financing, slave-owning Gulf emirate is also fawned over by the Obama administration, but Bennett's point stands nonetheless. Our officials in Washington come across as a vindictive and petty bunch, accusing an ally of cowardice while hiding behind anonymity, and guilty of hypocrisy in its rankest form. "Chickenshit?" That's rich, coming from an administration whose fear ofVladimir Putin is the subject of derisory mirth in the Kremlin, and whose cravenness toward Bashar al-Assad's regime in Damascus has directly resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent Syrians. Blissfully dismissive of their own failings, they round on Netanyahu, a man who served with distinction in his country's elite Sayeret Matkal army unit, by calling him, of all things, a coward! And that's not the only epithet. As Goldbeg pointed out, "Over the years, Obama admin- istration officials have described Netanyahu to reca!!trant, myopic, reactionary, Letter from Israel I Same old, same old I enjoy the sport to discuss back and forth, but not likely to advance the condition of either side. Mahmoud Abbas' reiteration of his views on the Holocaust does not endear him to us or advance his dream of Palestine. His line is not a Holocaust denial, but minimization with an anti-Zionist twist; i.e., only a million Jews killed, and Jewish cooperation with the Nazis to have Jews killed in order to advance the idea of a Jewish homeland in Palestine. Don't expect the realization of the leftist threat, i.e., a one-state solution, including Israel, Gaza and the West Bank with an im- mediate or eventual Palestinian majority. Israel will say "No," and the international community has not shown itself capable of imposing such a thing against the will of a strong state. Best for Israelis to ignore the noise and get on with our lives, enjoying the weather, scenery, family stories and the latest gadgets, alongside the skills of those employed to defend us from those who would harm us. The harm can come from rocks, fire bombs, Sharkansky on page 15A By Ira Sharkansky Every once in a while someone new starts reading my notes, and responds with an ex- pression of frustration. Usually it's something like, "Dammit, what's your solution?" Read my lips. There ain't any. In politics one should never say never, but in this case there is close to a century of ef- forts circling back on simila r ideas, with the same failure to bring the sides closer together. Is it time to plant a tombstone for the Two- State Solution? Who's to blame? That's a question too complex to answer. It resembles the question, "Do you believe in God?" which is an issue I put on the shelf at about the age of 20. One can find reasons to blame both Pales- tinians and Israelis for the lack of solution, as well as Americans and others for their clumsy handling of our issues. No doubt Israeli and Palestinian actions or inactions are at the center of what can be discussed about blame, but it's like the issue of God's existence. In the event of such an outcome, Israel could find itself isolated, as the European governments are anxiously awaiting a signal from the Americans that it's okay to abandon the Jewish state. If so, we will then be confronted with the edifying spectacle of the world's democracies aligning themselves with tyrannies from Venezuela to Iran in singling out Israel for opprobrium. Secondly, the Iranians. The deadline for a final deal over the mullah's nuclear ambi- tions-Nov. 24--is upon us. Perhaps Obama thinks that cursing Netanyahu will persuade Iran's supreme leader, the brutal Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to accept a deal. Judging by the breathlessly excited manner withwhich the re- gime's English-language outlet, the Holocaust- denying Press TV, greeted chickenshitgate, the president might be onto something. But what benefits will a historic accord with the Iranians bring us? Very few, whereas the costs will be enormous. For a start, this isn't just about israel. We will alienate the conservative Arab states like Egypt and Saudi Arabia, all of them already angry and frustratedwith Obama's kowtowing to Tehran. We will permit an Islamist state to become a nuclear power, at the same time that it backs terrorist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah with money and weapons. We will lose our leverage over the Iranians, in the form of biting sanctions, with few resource at our disposal to compel them to cooperate with international nuclear inspectors when they start--as they inevitably will--obstructing them at every turn. And we risk, again, the prospect of an Israeli pre-emptive strike, because whatever else Netanyahu might be, he's no chickenshit. Umpteen immediate questions remain, among them: Will Obama apologize for the chickenshit remark? Will he publicly name and discipline the officials who showered Netanyahu with insults? What will he do if the Iranians decline to make a deal? But the biggest question of all is a long- term one. What will the strategic map of the Middle East look like once Obama is done? That's what should be occupying the minds of Israel's leaders, who are painfully aware that Obama's peace efforts can only lead to more conflict and strife. Loan wolves attacking America By Ed Ziegler Each lone wolf terror attack unto itself may appear minimal but Islamic fanatics are calling for an escalation in lone wolf activity in America. Their call is achieving the desired effect. After reading this article take a minute to imagine how much horror hundreds or even thousands of lone wolf suicide bombers could inflict in America. Image a suicide bomber or two in a subway during rush hour with knapsack bombs. Consider a car or truck bomb on a bridge or tunnel or at a reservoir dam or among pedestrians. The media rarely report on terrorist activity occurring in the United States, making it so easy to ignore. But there are far more terror actions than the average person realizes. Most of these actions are carried out by one or two individuals (lone wolf) unlike 9/11 consisting 6f 15 perpetrators and an unknown number of.helpers resulting in 3000 deaths. On Oct. 23, 2014, in a shopping area in Queens, N.Y., Zale Thompson attacked police with a hatchet. One officer received a serious head wound and another in the arm before Thompson was killed. Thompson is pictured on Facebook wearing a keffiyeh and had a terrorism-related conversation with one of his friends, according to police. New York City Police Commissioner William Bratton said '!the hatchet attack on four rookie officers was a terrorist act by a homegrown radical." On Oct. 2, 2014 the New York Daily Sun reported that Haroon Aswat was charged with attempting to establish a jihad training in camp in the U.S. He is accused of being an accomplice to convicted cleric Abu Hamza al-Masri for conspiring to open a terrorist training camp in Bly, Oregon. One of Hamza's sympathizers said the camp "looks just like Afghanistan" and that they were "stock-piling weapons and ammunition" there. Akba Jihad Jordan, of Raleigh, N.C., plead guilty to conspiracy of supporting terrorists. Jordan and his co-defendant, Avin Marsails Brown, intended to travel overseas to fight with terrorists. The pair also intended to use weapons to fight non-Muslims in America. An AK-47 assault rifle and ammunition was found in Jordan's apartment. Everyone heard of the Boston Marathon bombings. The lone wolf Chechen brothers Dzhoklar and Tamerlan Tsanaev built two simple pressttre cooker bombs that they deto- nated in the midst of unsuspecting marathon spectators. The brothers also killed an MIT po- liceman and carjacked an SUV and exchanged gunfire with Watertown police. There was the Fort Hood massacre of 13 people by a lone wolf killer shouting Allah Akbar. The convicted killer Major Nidal Hassen, an Army psychiatrist is now asking to become a citizen of the terrorist Islamic State. Abdulhakim Muhammad confessed to shooting two soldiers outside a military re- cruiting station in Arkansas. Muhammad said he was acting in retribution for the deaths of Muslims in U.S. military actions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Muhammad was sentenced to life in prison without parole. In May 2001, Faisal Shahzad, a Palestinian American, attempted a car bombing in Times Square, N.Y. He confessed to 10 counts arising from the attempted bombing. Shahzadwas ar- rested at JFK Airport after boarding Emirates Flight 202, on route to Islamabad, Pakistan. On Christmas Day in 2009, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallah attempted to bomb Northwest Flight 253 on the way to Detroit, Michigan with 290 people aboard. He was prevented, by passengers, from igniting the plastic explosive sewn in his underwear. In April 2013, Yusuf Ibrahim, 28, was in- dicted in Jersey City, N.J., for the 2013 murder of Hanny Tawadros and Amgad Konds. He cut off their heads and hands. The two victims were Egyptian Coptic Christian expatriates. In 2006 Mohammed Taheri-azar drove his car into a crowd at the University of North Carolina. He attempted to kill Americans in revenge for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The letter he wrote to police stated "I live with the holy Koran as my constitution for right and wrong and definition of injustice." On Jan. 31, 2013, Mohamed Osman Mo- hamud, a Somal-American student, was found guilty for an attempted car bombing at a Christmas tree lighting in Portland Oregon. There were 10,000 people in attendance at the annual event. The Mirror newspaper reported that on Oct 23, 2014, Cpl. Nathan Ciriilowas shot and killed by Michael Zehaf-Bibeau at the Canadian War Memorial. Police chased Zehaf-Bibeau into the Canadian Parliament where he was shot and killed. This shooting came two days after a Muslim convert killedone soldier and injured another in a hit-and-run. What is it that causes Muslim immigrants and born American converts here in the U.S. to become killers and be so willing to die? Someone must be brainwashing them, The second question is what will it take for us to demand action from our representatives? They must face up to terrorist activity and make the public more aware of the actual terrorism withoutwhitewashing in political correctness. EdZiegler can be contacted at Brooklyn13@ or 352-750-3298.
