The theme of his messages this year is to find your core within Judaism's core. You can live superficially but there is a gnawing doubt and emptiness at the core. Find out how to let Judaism be your core and provide bal- ance and strength for your whole life. Deborah Meitin, long-time Temple Israel member, will serve as the High Holiday cantor during High Holiday services at the synagogue. Debbie's beautiful voice is well known in Central Florida. Temple Israel will also hold a special Yizkor service for the unaffiliated on Yom Kippur, Saturday, Oct. 4, from 2:30-3 p.m., at Temple. The service will be led by Rabbi Neely. The synagogue is located Debbie Meitin at 50 S. Moss Road in Winter Springs, FL32708. Everyone is cordially invited to attend. Later in the day, commu- nity members are welcome to attend Mincha at 5:15, Neilah at 6:45, and Maariv at 7:45. Bernstein brings to Or- lando a wellspring of experi- ences and knowledge. She began her career as a public school music teacher in Stamford, Connecticut, and Valley Stream, New York. Her love for music brought her to the Hebrew University in Jerusalem to study ethno- musicology where she taught music at the Conservatory in Ashkelon and produced mu- sic programs for the Arabic station of Kol Yisrael. Upon returning to the U.S., she worked as coordinator for the Federation's Teen Tour to Israel, assistant director of Susan Bernstein education with Congregation Beth Torah, announcer for ra- dio station WRR-FM, librarian for the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra and music instruc- tor at Akiva Academy. Bern- stein's journey continued to Omaha, Nebraska, where she served as community Jewish educator. Next stop was Se- attle, teaching Judaicsubjects and music at the Jewish Day School. Wanting to extend her scope of skills, she moved to Portland, Oregon, to become the director of education at Congregation Neveh Shalom and then to Rochester, New York, with Temple Beth El. Bernstein is extremely excited to belong to a small, connected and warm, wel- coming community at Temple Israel. She is looking forward to meeting various members of the Orlando Jewish com- munity and collaborating on events and programs.
