A new congregation Attention folks in Clermont, Lake County, or anywhere in the southwestern portions of Central Florida! There's a brand new congregation made up of wonderful people, dedicated leaders, and with a wonderful rabbi ready for the upcoming High Holy Days. I heard from a very nice gentleman, MARVIN KOVEL, all about it. Let me pass it along to you: "For the first time in the 135 year history of Clermont, we have a brand new synagogue. The synagogue evolved from a friendship club to a Congrega- tion in about a two years period. We have started services on a monthly basis and will have a full High Holiday service this year. We borrowed prayer books and a Torah and we use a civic center for worship. We have Rabbi WILLIAM COHEN for the Holidays. We have taken off like 'rocket. Nobody knew we had so many Jewish families in this neck of the woods and now we have 63 member families! Shown here (1-r): MEL LEVY, president;, DANIELLE SILPE; ARIEL KAROLINSKI; NORM POSNER; and FRANCISCO VARGAS, lay cantor. We are between Conservative and Reform. I can write many more paragraphs about our start, our members, and what our plans for Congregation Sinai of Clermont are in the future." First I want to thank Marvin Kovei for contacting me. Obviously, Congregation Sinai of Clermont is very special and important to him. To me, it sounds like a very nice place to worship especially with such a learned and caring rabbi, as I know Rabbi William Cohen to be, officiating for the Holidays. All unaffiliated people in the Clermont, Lake County, or Southwest area of Central Florida or all unaffiliated people who are interested, may contact JANET BLOOM at 352-242- 9181 for further details and directions or 'STEPHANIE MORGENSTERN, Ways and Means Chairman, at 352-243- 5750. (I'm thinking with highway 408 going straight out how far can it be?) A Jewish Holiday joke With the Holidays almost here how appropriate! A small town had two churches, Presbyterian and Methodist, and one synagogue, All three had a serious problem with squirrels in their building.
