Candlelighting At least two candles should be lit. representing the dual commandments to remember and to ke~p the Sabbath. The candles are traditionally lit by the woman of the household. After lighting, she waves her hands over the candles, welcoming in the Sabbath or yom tov. Then she covers her eyes. so as not to see the candles before recit- ing the blessing, and recites the blessing. The hands are then removed from the eyes, and she looks at the can.dies. comploCing the mitzvah of lighting the candles. Wed. Sept. 4 Light candles at 7:25 p.m. Fri.
