In fact, camp director Tannenbaum seemed crabby, reprimanding even e most innocent youngsters at camp. And the scowl on program coordinator Bonnie Friedman's face was turn grapes sour. Maybe there had been a late night, but why take it out on the out I p.m. a meeting was called in the JCC All campers and staff were to attend. They into the room, almost in single lines, occasionally a ) to the left or right, provoking a counselor to in line." Just one more group to come, the group. Friedman her place at the front of the room and began with a , ear-piercing scream that nearly shattered windows... have quiet, please!" ones looked scared, the older ones looked room suddenly quieted, Friedman began her with a number of "problems." She beligerently the campers "messy," saying that they have priviledges" and the camp "has seen its last trip." Moans and murmers came from the of campers, along with yells of "That's not fair, what ),, MACCABIAD generals, labelled wlth team names, wait on stage as team members are called out, after declaration of 'UF. ' HERITAGE photo by Barbara Coenson-Rot h Friedman went on to say that it was not only the campers, but their counselors as well. Addressing a counselor in the back of the room, she yelled, "What about the tents, you were supposed to take down the tents." Passing. the buck, the young teenager turned to his older counterpart and said, "You were supposed to do that." "I wasn't, it was your job." Then the fists began to fly. But before a rumble could begin, Friedman, in a voice that would make a sargeant seem like a mouse, demanded that they step outside to fight, or come to the front of the room to air their grievances. The bewildered campers gasped, "What's going on?" The two counselors approached the front of the room, mumbling all the way. No sooner did they reach the stage when the pair were at it again -- a wrestling match, beginning with two. Soon others came up from the audience, attracted to the melee like fly paper. The pile grew larger. The campers didn't know whether to laugh or cry. What was happening to Camp JCC? Suddenly, almost like it had been planned, the rumblers ripped off their shirts disclosing bodies painted with the names: Irqun, Hagannah. Palmach and Tzahal. "This means war," they yelled in shrilling volces. It was planned. It was the kick offto CampJCC's annual color war games called the Maccabiad. The entire camp, has been divided into the four groups to compete in different sporting and swimming events, word games, poster designs, skit productions and more. Last Friday was a set-up. No one was angry, grouchy or grumpy last Friday. The staff was just setting the mood to introduce the annual color war games to the campers. Nursery School to Offer 00L,e00eh .
