Marty was president of his
Temple youth group in
Brookline, Mass., and showing
leadership qualities by going
to conclaves, etc. Asked
whether he's active in the
Jewish community now, Marty
said, 'Tm a very passive
Jewish participant right now
but as I get older I seem to be
getting more interested in my
heritage -- no pun intended.
I'm proud of my heritage but
don't practice as much right
now."
Has he found any anti-
Semitism in either advertising
or the sports world?
"No, I've been pretty lucky, I
guess. My folks think I might
have been discriminated
against when I was in Boston
but I always felt that they were
wrong. Maybe because I was
naive, but I still think they were
wrong. But the older I get, the
more I realize that they're
smart people, so who knows. I
don't think that rve every been
hurt or helped by the fact that
I'm Jewish, and that's okay.
I've never been passed over for
a job or given one to be the
token Jew."
Marty Rotberg will leave the
Tampa Bay area at the end of
this season. He has been
offered the job as consultant
to the entire North American
Soccer League, doing what he
did here. Making soccer grow,
