HERITAGE FLORIDA JEWISH NEWS, JULY 20, 2012 PAGE 9A By Gloria Yousha -- Call 407-657-9405 or 407-834-8787 Welcome to the 21st century... At my "advanced" age, instead ofjust"growing old gracefully," I am on my computer daily where I have my own website. I'm also on MySpace, Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter. I Skype, email and use Google all the time. I have a cellphone (doesn't everybody?) and now, although I don't think I will ever use it...I CAN TEXT! (Attention teenagers: NOT WHEN DRIVING!) So, now that I have this new ability (texting) I have thought about codes that my grandchildren use, like BFF (best friends forever), OMG (Oh my God), LOL (laughing out loud) and so on. Recently, Cantor ISAAC KRIGER emailed me the following codes for senior citizen texters: ATD: At the doctors BFF: Best friend fell BTW: Bring the wheelchair BYO. Bring your own teeth FWIW: Forgot where I was GHA: Got heartburn again IMHO: Is my hearing aid on? LMDO: Laughing my dentures out TTYL: Talk to you louder And I'm adding one of my own... MMB: Moved my bowels. (I know. I know. TMI: Too much information!) What are you doing in November? I recently received this email from EMELY KATZ, associate executive director of The Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando. I'm sure it's meant for all of us: "We are thrilled to invite you to experience Israel through the performing arts! Join us on a trip of a lifetime. To learn more about the mission and review costs and the itinerary" (read further). "On July 24 at 7 p.m. we will be hosting a mission information session at Sky Lake Studios (99 S. New York Ave., Winter Park, 32789). Wine and cheese will be served. "If you're interested in attending please RSVP by replying to this email or call 407-645-5933, ext. 237. "Space is limited and the mission is filling up quickly so reserve your spot today!" (Israel is a wonderful place to visit, especially for us... so much meaning! My spouse and I have been and plan to return in thevery near future. We have a lot of family there that we keep in touch with via emaii, Skype, etc. I repeat... Welcome to the 21st century.) A great man... And a good guy. I refer to Judge BELVIN PERRY, Jr, a man I'm proud to write about. I recently received a card in the mail proclaiming him "The Right Choice." (I definitely agree!) The card went on to say "Judge Belvin Perry, Jr. is a proven leader with an exem- plary record that has earned him the support and respect of his colleagues and community partners. For eight two-year terms, his fellow judges have voted him ChiefJudgewhere he currently serves." It continued, "He has presided over many prominent cases" (including Judge Belvin Perry, Jr. that of CASEY ANTHONY) "and is a dedicated member of the community he loves. He stands for the rights of all citizens and strongly believes everyone should get the justice he or she deserves." Judge Belvin Perry, Jr., gives credit to our own HARRIETT LAKE and the late Hy Lake, for taking a great interest in him when he was ayoungsterjust starting out andworking for them. "Hy, really was the one who took him under his wing," according to Harriett. Belvin especially remembers how Hy encouraged him to further his education. He said, "Hy always stressed hard work to me." It seems that was great advice and it truly paid off as Belvin is the recipient of many prestigious awards, including the 2012 James G. Glazebrook Memorial Bar Service Award from the Or- ange County Bar Association and the Judge William M. Hoeveler Judicial Award by The Florida Bar Committee on Professional- ism; In 2010-11 he was President of The National Conference of Metropolitan Courts; In 2009 he was Jurist of the Year for the State of Florida by the Florida Chapter of Trial Advocates and Florida Supreme Court Resolution for Exemplary Leadership and Dedication Working with Legislative/Executive Branches of State Government; In 2006-10 he was the Chair of the Trial Court Budget Committee; In 2005, he was given the Golden Bell Award by the Mental Health Association of Central Florida, the Founders Award by the Florida Partners in Crisis and the Jurist of the Year Award from the Hispanic Bar Association of Central Florida; and in 2002-03 he was the first African American Chair of the Florida Conference of Circuit Judges. (Wow... what a background! I am truly impressed.) Orange and Osceola counties vote on Aug. 14, with early voting from Aug. 4-11. Judge Belvin Perry, Jr. is running for re-election in the 9th Judicial Circuit. Running against him is another gentle- man named Perry... so be sure to vote carefully for Belvin, a true friend of our community. A great lady... I refer to Rollins College President Emerita RITA BORNSTEIN. Rita Bornstein was recently chosen as the winner of the 2012 E. Burr Gibson Lifetime Achieve- ment Award. The Council for Advance- ment and Support of Educa- tion (CASE) presents the award to individuals who have made a significant and lasting impact on the field of institutional advancement. As the first woman to serve as president of Rollins College, she guided the fundraising effort that raised more than $160 million for academic pro- grams, scholarships, faculty chairs and facilities. I promised I would remind you... And, believe me, this is an event you won't want to miss! On Sunday, July 29, Mr. KENNY LEE with Mr. BJ Stephens, presents "A Night Of Cabaret!" It will feature the dazzling (and talented) divas, Ramona Da Whore, Kaye Starr, Geraldine Jones, Chantel Re- shae and CrystalVahzz and her dancers. The special guest will be Page King. The "star-studded" night takes place at the Sheraton Orlando North Hotel. The hotel is at 600 N. Lake Destiny Drive, Maitland. Doors open at 6 p.m. and show time is 7 p.m. Admission is $15 per person. For information and direc- tions, phone 407-670-4418. A very important group... Rita Bornstein Mr. Kenny Lee The Jewish Pavilion and VITAS Innovative Hospice Care are offering a free grief support group for people who have lost spouses, children, parents or any loved one. The first sessionwill take place from 7- 8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 26 at Chambrel at Island Lake, 160 Islander Court, Longwood. This is a six-week recurring program. Refreshments and socializing are part of the program. RSVP to WENDY LEVINE at the Jewish Pavilion by phoning 407-678-9363 or going online to wendylevine@jewishpavilion. org. You can laugh now... You didn't understand the joke last week? The punch line was inexplicably dropped. Here is the complete joke: One for the road... Oy vay! (That's all I can say, except DON'T EAT WHILE READING THIS JOKE!) Morriswent out fishing. He had driven by the lake many times before and had seen some other anglers about, so he decided to give his luck a try. On his first day of fishing he had no luck at all but noticed that another fisherman near him was scooping in one fish after another. Morris had to know the secret. "Excuse me, would you mind telling me what sort of bait you're using?" he asked. The other man looked a bit embarrassed. "Well, I am a surgeon, and quite by accident I found that human tonsil works very well." Morris couldn't match that. He thanked the man and left. Next day, Morris returned to the lake, tried a different bait but still had no luck. Just as before, nearby was another man reeling in fish after fish. "Excuse me," asked Morris, "but could you suggest a bait that I could try?" "Well, I can but I am not sure it will do you any good. I am a doctor and I'm using a bit of human appendix." "Hmm," thought Morris. "I can't match that. It seems that the fish in this lake will require a little more effort than normal." He left, willing to give the lake one more try. On the third day, Morris still had no luck. As usual, there was another man near him bringing in lots of fish. Morris had to confirm what he already knew. "Excuse me sir, but are you a doctor?" "No," replied the man. I am a mohel." You can laugh now... You didn't understand the joke last week? The punch line was inexplicably dropped. Here is the complete joke: Although I understand this may be a true story, I probably should warn readers by giving it an X rating: Rabbi Levy is addressing the 'Enlighten Your Daughter' meeting of the synagogue women's guild. "Ladies," he says, "I'm sure some of you know by now that the unfortunate Jonathan Bloom has been sent to prison for making love to his wife Sadie's dead body." A number of 'Oy vays' are heard from the ladies present. "You might also be interested to know," the Rabbi goes on to say, "that I spoke to Jonathan yesterday and I now firmly be- lieve that his actions were entirely innocent and accidental. So although we are all feeling sorry for Jonathan, there is a lesson to be learned. Ladies, go back home to your daughters and tell them that when making love with a good Jewish husband, they should please make a little wiggle." can be purchased at the following locations: ORANGE COUNTY JCC, 851 N.
