HERITAGE FLORIDA JEWISH NEWS, JULY 3, 2009 By Gloria Yousha -- Call 407-657-9405 or 407-834-8787 Well...another hypocrite bites the dust... Of course I'm referring to the governor of South Carolina, MARK SANFORD, a former congressman, a Republican and someone who may have had thoughts of running for president of the United States in 2012. Am I psychic or what? I knew he wasn't hiking on the Ap- palachian Trail as he hoped everyone would believe. I knew he was cheating. Or am I just a pessimist? I am heartsick about Neda... Is it weird that this Jewish woman would shed tears for a Muslim woman she never met? Not weird in the least. I'm sure I am not alone. I, and millions of others, watched as she died in the streets of Tehran. "Neda" literally means. "Devine One" in Farsi. This beautiful 26-year old woman, a music lover, has become the symbol of struggle in Iran, especially for women. Because of that the Iranian government had to do some- thing to discredit its deed. This was taken directly from the Internet: Neda Agha-Soltan "Iran said the gunman who killed Neda Agha-Soltan may have mistaken her for the sister of an Iranian 'terrorist,' the Islamic Republic News Agency reported Wednesday [June 17]. Iran blamed the death of the woman known to the world simply as Neda squarely on 'those groups who want to create division in the nation,' saying they planned the woman's killing 'to accuse the Islamic republic of ruthlessly dealing with the opposition,' according to IRNA, Iran's state-run news agency. The report said the investigation into her death is ongoing, 'but according to the evidence so far, it could be said that she was killed by mistake. The marksmen had mistaken her for the sister of one of the Monafeghin who had been executed in the province of Mazandaran some time ago.' Monafeghin refers to the People's Mujahedin Organization of Iran, or PMOI, which promotes a secular, Marxist government for Iran, and has waged a violent campaign against the fundamentalist Islamic regime, including bombings that killed politicians, judges and Cabinet members." (So much for the bull. I'm not buying any of it! The Iranian government, especially its cruel militia, is brutal, arresting, beating, shooting protesters. The Iranian government tried to explain that the group, also known as Mujahedin-e-Khalg, was initially formed to oppose the Shah of Iran but fell out of favor with the Islamic Revolution of Ayatollah Khomeini after 1979. In spite of that the European Union removed the group from its list of terror- ist organizations this year, prompting outrage from Tehran. The Iranian Foreign Ministry accused the European Union of making friends and cooperating with terrorists by removing the group from its list. Neda rose to prominence within hours after a crudely shot video documenting her final moments was uploaded to the Web. Shortly after she died from a single gunshot wound to the chest, she emerged as a powerful symbol of opposition to the Iranian government. "It's heartbreaking," President OBAMA said Tuesday [June 23], referring to the video of Neda.) Too much is happening. I'm depressed... If ever I needed a joke, it is now: A Jewish man was sitting in Starbucks reading an Arab newspaper. A friend of his, who happened to be in the same store, noticed this strange phenomenon. Very upset, he approached him and said: 'Moshe, have you lost your mind? Why are you reading an Arab newspaper?" Moshe replied, 'I used to read the Jewish newspapers, but what did I find? Jews being persecuted... Israel being attacked... Jews disappearing through assimilation and intermarriage... Jews living in poverty. So I switched to the Arab newspaper. Now what do I find? Jews own all the banks, Jews control the media, Jews are all rich and powerful, Jews rule the world. The news is so much better! We received an e-mail... It's about a new eatery in Orlando...not just any eat- ery...but one owned by our own HARRIS ROSEN: "The sun rose on Orlando's newest sushi bar and hot spot, Banshoo Sushi bar, which officially opened recently at the award-winning Rosen Centre hotel in the heart of International Drive. Banshoo, which is Japanese for 'sunset,' makes a perfect addition to Rosen Centre's laid-back, yet sophisticated, Florida style and also rounds out the hotel's acclaimed dining options, including the 'Yoshi' Kohazame South-Florida-themed Everglades Restaurant, which offers prime steaks and seafood, Caf Gauguin, with grand buffets as well as a full-service menu, the Lobby Lounge & Pool Bar and Red's Deli. Offering an inventive selection of specialty sushi rolls, fresh sashimi and inventive signature seafood dishes as well as distinct cocktails, wines and sake, Banshoo is fueled by the masterful culinary skills of 20-year sushi expert, Chef Tadayoshi 'YOSHI' Kohazame. Comprising the fresh selection of Japanese dishes are six signature sashimi and seafood presentations, nine Nigiri sushi and sashimi selections, 12 signature sushi rolls as well as daily chef specials. Among Banshoo's signature, not-to-be-missed of_ ferings are the Banshoo Sunset Signature Roll, a blend of lobster, crab and scallops topped with tuna and salmon as colorful as the Florida Sunset, and the HaRo Surf and Turf Signature Roll, a hearty combination of lobster and seared sirloin. Chef Yoshi's specialty seafood dishes include a citrus-infused Banshoo Ceviche Usuzukuri made of thin slices of tuna, white fish and salmon served with a lime ponzu sauce, and the Alaskan Cucumber Boat filled with spicy scallops and lump crab. As well as offering an incredible sushi meal or light bite before dinner, Banshoo also offers locals and visitors a place to unwind after a long day of work, meetings or sightseeing with refreshing signature cocktails such as the Banshoo Sunset Punch, made with Mount Gay and Myers dark rums, peach schnapps, banana liqueur, crme de cassis, and orange, pineapple and cranberry juices or the Asian Mojito, made with Tyku Asian Citrus Liqueur, Cruzan Rum, fresh mint, lime juice and club soda. Patrons of Rosen Centre's Lobby Lounge, Everglades res- taurant and Cafe Gauguin may also order from the Banshoo menu, and guests may even place orders from their rooms for pick up. Pre-made rolls are also available in Red's Dell, open 24 hours. Banshoo is open to hotel guests as well as the general public from 5-10 p.m. daily. Guests receive complimentary valet parking when dining at any Rosen Centre restaurant. Trained in Okinawa, Japan, Chef Yoshi has spent the last 20 years working for some of the finest Japanese and sushi restaurants in Central Florida. Chef Yoshi was instrumental in helping select a name for the new sushi bar, having grown up on the island of Okinawa, witnessing orange sunsets rising from pure blue waters. Sunset is a time for families and friends to come together. Chef Yoshi's love for his island, passion for fresh seafood and creative abilities led him to discover his culinary talents as a sushi chef. His belief is that the highest quality ingredients and artistic presentation create an unfor- gettable dining experience. Located at the front of the hotel adjacent to the Lobby Lounge, Banshoo features six seats at the sushi bar as well as a communal table at bar height that seats 12. The sophisticated and contemporary restaurant blends perfectly with Rosen Centre's existing dcor, incorporating tones of teal and terra cotta throughout. Banshoo's regal columns are wrapped in a mosaic of chocolate brown tiles accented with teal glass tile bars. Asian influences come into play with a kabuki red wall covering and coordinating kabuki red bar stools as well as a variety of Asian-inspired accessories. The bar area is illuminated with LED lighting and an opaque rice paper acrylic to create a glowing shoji screen effect while directional track lighting highlights the glittering Black Galaxy granite bar. The overall eff’ t is a comfortable yet upscale eatery that's ideal for casual conversation and relaxation and of course, great sushi. Rosen Centre is located at 9840 International Drive, Or- lando, FL 32819. I recently wrote about this couple... But they are so active in our com- munity I am writing about them again! On July 6, TYBE andWOLFKAHNwill be celebrating their 65th wedding an- niversary! Yes, I said 65th. That makes our (Irv's and mine) 49th seem like nothing. To celebrate, the couple had a large sheetcakeatCongre- gation Ohev Shalom. Wolf, besides being a fine artist who cre- ated many beautiful Tybe and Wolf Kahn things including a bust of famous Holocaust survivor ELIE WIESEL, has training in jewelry design, and he created a beau- tiful ring for his adoring wife, be. The ring was a surprise. Of course, the couple celebrated at their home, The Mayflower Retirement Community in Winter Park, as well. And speaking of the Mayflower, that is where Wolf keeps another of his creations, a bust of Rabbi Adler, which-he ex- hibited at the Mayflower and at Congregation Ohev Shalom. Every year, Wolf puts on a comedy marionette show for the residents of the Mayflower. He has been sculpturing most of his life and this year, on July 7, he will feature an employee, a maintenance worker, whose head will be featured atop a marionette. Wolf will write the jokes about his work and his department. He also does the scenery. PAGE 9 There will be two in the afternoon and one in the evening to accommodate everyone. When the show is ended, Wolf usually presents the marionette to the person the show is about. Everyone loves these shows, the residents and their guests. What a talent! One for the road... This one could be rated X: Izzy has taken to flying kites, but he's not very good at it. In fact, today he's having trouble controlling his kite as it's bobbing and weaving all over the sky. His wife Sarah, observing the scene from the window, calls out to him, "Izzy, I think it would be better if you had a piece of tail." Izzy replies, "When I asked you for that a little while ago, ou told me to go fly a kite." can be purchased at the following locations: Orange County JCC, 851 N.
