Liberty ;te HERITAGE it "unfortunately" has no organized campaign in Florida "yeL" tribution Of 00ti-Semitic • ature Stopped At Store Suicide Families Form Group CLEVELAND--Suicide of a loved one is the basis for "Survivors," a new group functioning which, at its initial meeting at Temple Emanuel here, was attended by 56 bereaved persons. Some came from as far away as Wooster. The group is the first in Cleveland and possibly in the U.S. not attached to a mental health agency and designed for relatives and close friends of suicides, accordin." g to the Cleveland Jewish News. It was organized by Mort and Phyllis November of Beechwood, whose daughter killed herself more than a year ago. November said the goals of "Survivors" were "constructive action towards mutual help and support" in circumstances in which the bereaved persons could share their "terrible experience" with each other and be available to others similarly bereaved. She said the task of the mourner is "real acceptance of death -- freedom from the past and the freeing up of energy for new issues." She said mourning takes an "enormous amount of energy." After the talks, the mourn- ers meet informally in small groups to mourn the loss of mates, childrer, brothers, sisters, cousins and close friends. Except for the Novembers, none of the par- ticipants were thought to be Jewish. Dr. Savine Weizman, a psychologist, who was leader of the first session on March 14, said "in our society, we hardly allow people to ex- press grief. We must give ourselves permission to grieve, to talk about it and share it." A woman in her 30s who had lost a bright daughter at 12, who killed herself without warning, said, "I would Like to help someone in a way that was not there for me two years ago. If someone only could have said 'We know how you feel.' I was alone." Dr. Weizman said "We have to admit our own powerlessness." Describing two of the stages of grief -- "anger" and "bargaining," the psychologist said the lab ter "is a terrible place" for the survivor "to get stuck," when guilt and self-blame take over with their "what ifs" and "if onlys." -- Distribution no important decision- any organized distribution "Unfortunately," he said, literature at a making position, source in the area.
