HERITAGE FLORIDA JEWISH NEWS, MAY 25, 2012 PAGE 9A By Gloria Yousha -- Call 407-657-9405 or 407-834-8787 Why didn't anyone ask these questions?... So far this morning (7:15 a.m.) I woke my spouse; let the dog out in the yard and then fed her, as well as our two cats and the bird; opened shades to let light in; tuned the televi- sion set to my spouse's favorite morning news program; made and served him a big breakfast; packed him a lunch to take to work; made our bed; straightened up the house; did all the dishes (by hand); tied his shoes (he has discomfort bending); planned dinner for tonight; and made a Publix shopping list. And, of course, I made myself beautiful. (Shut up!) Now, I'm NOT really political and I think Hillary Rosen's remark about Ann Romney not working a day in her life was terrible.., because Ann Romney "raised" five sons. Hillary Rosen took a lot of flack from both Republicans and Democrats for it and probably it was deserved. What I didn't hear asked of Ann Romney were the following questions... "Wh fie you were raising your sons, did you employ a cook? Did you have a housekeeper? Did you have a nanny, babysitter, au pair, any help with the youngsters? Did you find the time to have a manicure and a pedicure? Did you lunch with the girls? Did you go clothes shopping or get your hair done?" (Gee, I wonder what her answers would have been?) I raised three sons (who are now grown men) with none of those luxuries to help me. We didn't have money to spare. I also wrote a column in the Congregation Ohev Shalom monthly bulletin for a few years and I was an entertainer at night while raising them. They never got into real trouble, never took drugs.., in fact, our eldest son has been with the Drug Enforcement Adminis- tration for many years and is also a Naval officer; our middle son is a psychologist (which makes me particularly proud as he claims he decided on that profession because I was such a "dysfunctional morn').., and our youngest son owns his own marketing company. It is now 8:45 a.m. and time for me to sit down and write this column... Are we making eye contact?... What does a person's pos- ture and proximity convey? Why is eye contact so critical? How long should a person make eye contact before making someone feel uncom- fortable? The Jewish Pavilion is of_ fering a workshop on Body Language on Monday, June 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Horizon Bay, 217 Boston Ave in Altamonte Springs. The workshop is free Dana Fowler to the public and includes refreshments. Etiquette expert, DANA FOWLER, will be leading the discussion. RSVP to if you plan to attend. (What if I want to flirt? How should I stand? What kind of eye contact should I make? DON'T TELL IRV I ASKED THESE QUESTIONS0 Speaking of The Jewish Pavilion... I received this email from Executive Director, NANCY LUDIN. She opened with a note she sent to BERNICE and JOE DAVIDS to give me (and my readers) an idea of how much these good folks volunteer: "Hi Bernice," itsaid."Would you and Joe be willing to come in this week and help with a mailing? Would you be will- Bernice and Joe Davids ing to come in next week and help with reservations for our gala?" (The list of requests goes on and on.) You can find Bernice and Joe Davids almost every week at the Jewish Pavilion office. Like many non-profits, the Jewish Pavilion is understaffed and could not existwithout its office helpers. Nancy Ludin says, "What makes Bernice and Joe unique is that they do so much more than office work. They visit seniors at a weekly Happy Hour and monthly Shabbat luncheon at Savannah Court and a monthly ice cream social at Eastbrooke Gardens. The best-kept secret is that most of the 'seniors' are younger than they are. This year, the Friends of the Jewish Pavilion decided to honor two couples instead of two individuals at their Volunteer Ap- preciation Luncheon on Sept. 6, 2012 at Maison and Jardin. Bernice and Joe Davids will be honored alongwith SUZANNE and HANK LANDERS. When you look up the word couple in the dictionary you find this definition "two persons considered as joined together, as married, lovers, or dance partners: They make a handsome couple." Bernice and Joe are a true couple in every sense of the word. My all-time favorite show... By far, this is my very favorite... La Cage Aux Folles! And who can blame me? It has comedy, drama, songs, danc- ing, fabulous costumes and on and on. And best of all... IT IS POLITICALLY CORRECT! La Cage Aux Foiles, starring George Hamilton and Christo- pher Sieber, is coming to the Bob Carr PerformingArts Centre and will be performed from June 5-10, 2012. The winner of three Tony Awards, including the award for Best Musical Revival, is simply the best ever. This revival of La Cage was the biggest hit of the 2010 Broadway season, leaving audiences in stitches night after night. If you have plans to take a George Hamilton cruise.., visit Disneyworld... go to Europe... whatever.., cancel them during the run of this fabulous show. Purchase tickets to La Cage Aux Folles instead. You can purchase tickets online at www.OrlandoBroadway. com; by phone, call 800-448-6322; or by going in person to 100 South Eola Drive, Orlando, Suite 101. JUST DO IT! (You'll thank me for insisting.) I heard from a friend... I refer to the lovely ESTELLE WHEELER, who sent me this email: "Would you believe that Congregation Ohev Shalom will be celebrating its first anniversary at 613 Concourse Parkway South? On Friday Evening, June 8 at 7:30 p.m., there will be a special service celebrating our first anniversary. As part of the service, all the new members who became part of the COS family during the first year, will be officially welcomed. We have penned this special group, "The First 613ers." An anniversary celebration brings to mind food as well as gifts. The Oneg Shabbat following services will not disappoint all who attend. I have it on good authority that itwill be'mouthwatering'. Now paper has been designated as the appropriate first an- niversary gift. Although I'm sure money comes to mind, that is not what is expected. Instead we are asking every congregant (very young children to the senior of seniors) to submit draw- ings, photos, stories, poems, or just messages describing their sentiments, feelings and memories of this first year. These gifts will be compiled into a Scrapbook titled "The First Year in the Life of Ohev at '613"'. All rolled into one... I'm talking about CHELSEA HOSTETLER, a waitress at the Perkins Restaurant & Bakery, 6425 University Blvd., Winter Park. What's "rolled into one" you ask? Easy! Chelsea is efficient, charming, smart, fun, bubbly, caring... I can go on and on. I was lucky to have her as my waitress on my last two visits and I intend to visit again because of her! (The only problem? Chelsea is very pretty and I just can't stand competition!) A Shavuot Ice Cream Party... This is a message from Chabad of Greater Orlando, 708 Lake Howell Rd, Maitland. They will have a Shavuot Ice Cream Party on Sunday, May 27, between 9:30 a.m. and noon, followed by a dairy luncheon. They ask everyone to join them for the reading of The Ten Commandments and a fabulous dairy lunch buffet including Greek salad, cheese blintzes, lasagna, cheese cake and last but not least, ice cream with favorite toppings. This is a family event open to all. No need to be a member. Free of charge; partially sponsored by SHIRLEY ZAWATSKY. One for the road... This is worth repeating: A rabbi, a priest, and a minister are discussing what they do with donations to their respective religious organizations. The minister says that he draws a circle on the floor, throws the money up in the air, and whatever lands in the circle, he gives to God, andwhatever lands outside the circle, he keeps. The priest uses a similar method. He draws the circle, but whatever lands outside the circle, he gives to God, and whatever lands inside, he keeps. The rabbi has a slightly different method of dividing the money. He throws all the money up in the air. Whatever God wants, he keeps.
