HERITAGE, Florida Jewish News_May_23. !9  Orlando Sends Word to Officials Concerning Soviet Jewry Dissidents The Orlando community has sent telegrams and letters to officials in the Soviet Union and the United States and to Secretary of State Edmund S. Muskie to protest recent arrests and trials in the Soviet Union. Moisey Tonkonogy from Odessa has just been sentenced to one year in prison for "Parasitism." Tonkonogy and his parents applied to emigrate to Israel in 1973. His parents received permission, while he was denied on grounds of "secrecy," due to his short term of army service in 1971. Under continual harass- ment from local authodtie he was jailed many times, refused an apartment permit and threatened with "parasitism." An electrical mechanic by trade, he was frequently fired from jobs because of his pending application. His parents' activity in Israel resulted in warnings from Soviet authorities that he "would regret it" if they continued their activities. Details of the tdal have not yet reached the West.
