HERITAGE FLORIDA JEWISH NEWS,MAY 18, 2012 o Annual JCC 5K finishes with pizza and pool party The 29th Annual JCC Beat the Heat 5K Road Race will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 19. Post-race festivities include free pizza dinner and pool party for all registered runners. The 2012 road race will again be held at the Roth JCC in Maitland. The 5K starts from the Jewish Academy of Orlando park- mg lot with the race course running around parts of scenic Lake Sybelia and finishing back at the JCC. The cost to participate in the 5K is $20 before July 19 and $25 on race day. Runners andwalkers are welcome. The registration fee includes race registration, race shirt while supplies last, plus pizza and sodas. Beer wilt be avail- able to participants 21 and up. There will also be a free quarter-mile kids run for children 6 and under. To register online, visit the 5k Race page at bit.ly/ JCC5k2012. Online regis- tration closes July 17. OBITUARIES DAVID ELLIOT RITT David E. Ritt of Winter Park died on Wednesday, May 2. 2012: He was 79 years old. A native of Ottawa. Canada. Mr. Ritt was born to the late Simon Joseph Ritt and Thelma Dover Ritt. He graduated from Clark- son University in New York with his Bachelor's in Busi- ness and from New York University with his Master's degree. Mr. Ritt and his wife. the former Eva London, relo- cated to the Orlando area from Baltimore in 1972. He was. for many years, in the real estate business. In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons, Simon Jay Howard Ritt (Jan Collins) of Summerville, Mass. and Micheal London Ritt (Jen- nie)'ofWoodbridge, Va.; and daughter, Linda Ellen Ritt Kupfer (Dr. Stuart Kupfer) of Deerfield, Ill. He is also sur- vived by six grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth H. Ritt. Funeral services were held in Baltimore. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel, Orlando. JONATHAN ELIHU SIEGEL Jonathan E. Siegel died Saturday, May 5, 2012. He was 67 years old. He was born in Fayette- ville, N.C. to the late Morris Siegel and Claire Goldstein Siegel. Mr. Siegel earned his Bachelor of Science degree and became a dedicated alum of Cornell Universify Class of 1966. He was the lead bass singer and solo- ist in the Glee Club and a member of theAir National Guard. As a Glee Club mem- ber he trave led throughout Southeast AsLa. He was a member of ZBT fraternity and was the Re- union Clerk for theAlumni Association. A world traw eler. he loved opera, garden- ing and sports: he organized the first Willie Mays Day at Shea Stadium in New York. Mr. Siegel had a special love for Israel. living there for a great part of his life. He wps a past member of the board of directors of the Tel Aviv Museum. He relocated to the Orlan- do area from Westchester, N.Y. in 2010 to be closer to his daughter and family. He is survived by his daughter, Jodi Siegel-Sward (Brian Sward) of Orlando and his sister Molly (Jeffrey) Lind of Orlando and two grand- children. Mrs. Ticker, a native of Bronx, N.Y. was born to the late Lewis and Julia Rapp. She attended local area schools and, as an adult. completed her Associates Degree. She was the widow of the late Bernard Ticker who passed away in 1991. Mr. and Mrs. Ticker, for many years. SHELDON WlTTENSTEIN Sheldon Wittenstein died Saturday, May 5, 2012. He was 83 years old. Mr. Wittenstein was born to Sol and Dora Zonn Wit- tenstein. He became part of the next generation of one of Orlando's oldest Jewish families. He attended school in Orlando and went to college before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1951 and serving in Korea. He went on to become a property/casualty and com- mercial insurance agent in Orlando. He was a lifelong member of Congregation Ohev Sha- lom and a member of the Elks Lodge #1079. Mr. Wittenstein is sur- vived by his wife Jo Ellen of Orlando, his son Michael (Lois) of Marietta, Ga. and daughter Cathy Gucker of Ketchika, Ak. He is also survived by his sister Norma Rifkin of Boca Raton and four grandchildren. Graveside services with military honors were held at Congregation'Ohev Sha- lom Cemetery with Rabbi David Kay officiating. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Beth Shalom Memorial Chapel, Orlando. MARVN MELVIN GLENN Marvin M. Glenn of Ovie- do died on Tuesday, May 8, 2012. He was 86 years old. A native of Latrobe, Pa., he was born May 27, 1925 to the late Joseph and Jennie Jenkowitz Glenn. Mr. Glenn attended high school and college, ultimately becom- ing a mechanical engineer in the aeronautics industry. On April 7, 1962, in New York, he married the former Rosalie Berger, his wife of 50 years, who survives him. In 1990, after retiring, they re- located to the Orlando area. In addition to his wife, Mr. Glenn is also survived by his son, Russell, of Orlando. Graveside services were held at Bet Chaim Cemetery; Gotha, with Rabbi Arnold Siegel officiating.
