HERITAGE FLORIDA JEWISH NEWS, MAY 11, 2012 Jewish Pavilion hires two new program directors The Jewish Pavilion is wel- coming two new part-time program directors to their staff. Melanie Baxt became the program director in South Orlando prior to Purim and Emily Newman is assuming the position in Longwood, Lake Mary and Sanford as of May 1. "While the Jewish Pavilion is sad to say goodbye to Flory Kahn who has retired and Roxane Abelow who has ac- cepted a full time position, we are very excited about our new staff" says Nancy Ludin, executive director. Baxt hit the ground run- ning. She was immediately imtnersed in Pufim parties followed by the planning of a dozen Seders in South Or- lando and in town. According to Ludin she is ideal for the position for numerous rea- sons. Firstly, she is a member of the South Orlando Jewish Congregation and the Jewish Community Center Rosen Campus and the parent of Holden in the JCC preschool program. Her background as a schoolteacher is testament to her skills in planning and executing events. Ludin adds, " Melanie is a fun-loving, energetic, com- passionate Jewish woman with excellent communica- tion skills. She has a natural fondness and respect for the older'population. As a young widow and a cancer survivor, Melanie has a wealth of life experience at the young age of 46." She and her husband, Lee Moore own Celebration Consulting Group where all of her efficiency skills come in handy. "Melanie's posi-" tion at the Jewish Pavilion averages five hours a week and it is amazing how much she can accomplish in that period of time says a Pavilion spokesperson." "It is very exciting to hive Emily Newman return to our staff," says Nancy Ludin. A couple of years ago, Newman worked as a program assistant for the Jewish Pavilion. She planned Shabbat and holiday celebrations and visited se- niors in long term care. As a director, she will be doing all that and more. She will be re- sponsible for overseeing all the volunteers in Longwood, Lake Mary and Sanford, handling publicity and developing rela- tionships with the long term care communities visited by the Jewish Pavilion. Emily works part time as Melanie Baxt the Senior Adult program coordinator at the Roth Jewish Community Center. Her Mon- day, Tuesday and Thursday schedule allows her to work on Wednesdays and Fridays for the Jewish Pavilion. The program director position is 10 hours a week, and the hours areflexible since some of her programs are intergen- erational activities that take place on Sundays. Newman has extensive experience working with the elderly including event planning, discharge plan- ning and psychosocial as- sessments. Her social work Emily Newman background is ideal for this position," adds Ludin. "Em- ily is an active member at Congregation Ohev Shalom. The teens from Ohev Sha- lom engage regularly With Jewish Pavilion residents, so the relationships she has cultivated through the years are a tremendous asset," says a Pavilion spokesperson. Ludin adds, "Emily is de- pendable, hard-working and passionate about seniors. She has already established excellent rapport with many of the volunteers and staff.
