People in the news Last week there was a lot of celebration and media men- tion for a very special lady in our community. One of the events was titled "Rita Rocks," which makes one think of a rock star. But our lady in question is much more important than that, believe me! Dr. RITA BORNSTEIN, will be retiring as President of Rollins College this summer, after quite a successful reign. One of the events for Rita was the presentation of a per- manent memorial on a Rollins College walkway. I'm sure this gracious lady Dr. RITA BORNSTEIN will be missed. More people in the news Remember the rhyme that went like this "Butcher, Baker, Candlestick maker? Have you ever known a candlestick maker? Let me intro- duce you to some In Starting Your Own Business Maga- zine, there appeared a feature story about a family who is "Cashing In On Candles." Mary Ellen and Kevin opened a shop at 1030 Semoran Blvd. in Casselberry that they call Koppe's Kandles They make their own candles and are quickly becoming known for their product that burns longer and smells better than most of the competitionl Also their price is right! The Koppe's started with a much smaller operation which proved so successful that they moved into a store and have asked their son, Shaun and daughter-in-law, Rebecca, to be manag- ers. They even expanded to soaps and find that both fragrant products go well together. Next time your in their neighborhood, be sure to drop into the store and take a deep breath. DEVINE! People in the news, continued As I've mentioned before in this column, I am a fan of Martha Stewart. On her March 31 television show, she taught me how to prepare a wonderful kosher dish for a Seder that was fit for a king or Irving. It was a capon stew topped offwith thyme! Gee I hope Martha doesn't have to do thyme er time. I received a letter It was from NANCY R. DALY, a member of Congregation of Liberal Judaism. She is co-facilitating the event. I am passing it along to you word for word: "The event is called 'Empowering Your Passion to Make a Difference.' It is targeted to professionals and community leaders who desire to make their passion their purpose in life and desire to feel that they are making an even greater differ- ence in the world." The Center for Quality of Life, Amherst, Mass is sponsoring the event May 14-16 at San Pedro Retreat Center, Winter Park.
