Florida Jewish News, April t8, 1980 Editor's Desk By Gene Starn, Editor & Publisher Don't wait to reinvest State of Israel Bonds There is $125,000,000 readily available tor investment in Israel this year. And all it takes is for those people who are holding State of Israel Bonds that mature this year to re-invest them. Sounds like a simple job, doesn't it? But Bond holders may not be aware that mature bonds do not aid Israel at all. They should be put back into the work force of financial assistance to the Jewish nation. Last year there was a marked increase in the sale of four percent Bonds to members of the Jewish community because of the outstanding success of the reinvestment program. An enormous challenge faces Israel this year. As mandated by the peace treaty with Egypt, thousands of people must be relocated from the Sinai to the Negev within a short period of time, and a vast infrastructure must be built to accommodate them. At the same time, Israel's ongoing economic growth must continue at its current rate. The Sixth Development Issue of Israel Bonds--the $1 billion Economic Development for Peace Loan-- will help to pay the immense costs of developing the largely barren Negev to comply with the treaty terms, as well as continuing the ongoing devel- opment as well. More than $83 million in coupon and savings Bonds will mature during 1980. This, plus the amount of matured Bonds still outstanding, means that there will be more than $125 million in Bonds available for reinvestment The sooner these Bonds are sooner Israel can have additional funds with the job before it, the important task of building for peace. In order to reinvest and purchase a with the proceeds of the old Bond, must be completed. We, therefore, ur call or write the Israel Bond Office 4601 Kennedy Blvd., #118, Tampa, FL phone number is (813) 879-8850. One last reminder. It's never too late new State of Israel Bond. It will be a very enlightening and interesting meeting--and sometimes even entertaining. Although we believe the board of directors of the Federation to be trustworthy, honorable, conscientious, dedicated, deliberating and under- standing, we also believe that there are many, many more in our community who should be actively, involved in the workings of the Federation and voice their opinions before this august group. Sunday is one very prime opportunity. It is a i singular meeting in that only budget and alloca- tion matters will be discussed. We have been told that you will be welcome to attend the meeting, and we have also been told that you will be permitted to "speak your peace" if you care to, provided you were a contributor to the recently successful Combined Jewish Appeal campaign. Not only will general allocation policies be discu, sed, but the budget requests of the Jewish Center, Jewish Family Service, the Hebrew Day School, and the many Federation committees will be carefully scrutinized. if you can, attend this meeting. You'll get an education on local Jewish money matters. 00eetcgl00d -DryCBc00rLes 'Hineni' Blasts Dayan To the Editor: Moshe Dayan owes the Jewish community of Greater Miami an apology. He had the unmitigated gall and "chutzpah" to appear for a public lecture in a local hotel on the seventh day of Passover, Sunday night April 6th. which is a very holy day even in Israel. Many leaders in this area are upset and outraged that such an outstanding world Jewish figure should be so insensitive and arrogant as to snub an important Jewish community in this manner. We, who are working towards greater Jewish awareness so that Jews will not enter those cults which are proliferating here in Miami, must now trytoanswer questions from our youth about this behavior. It is all the more shameful since General Dayan insists that when he is introduced to audiences, no mention be made of his titles and position; only, "say, I wonder he has done community desecrating festival.
