It brought us closer together than the time we ran out of gas on a deserted road and we had to sit in the car until help arrived. For the radio brought us news of the crises of the day. Would school be open or closed? When the answer was "closed," the kids would all rush out and play in the stuff that made it too dangerous for them to go to school. They even took their sleds to the hill behind that very same building where they should have been learning their 3Rs. We can do wiihout the constant operation of the clothes dryer, getting their outwear ready for round two. Were our mothers stuck with us in the house because they didn't have these modern conveniences, or did we go outside after lunch, wet? And what did they do without blow dryers to be jammed in one boot at a time to speed up the process? The closest I think I ever came to a complete nervous breakdown was when Mitch had a birthday party and it suddenly started to snow. And snow. And snow. And I was afraid that it would prevent mothers from picking up their offspring. Or, not to let an opportunity pass by, say they couldn't make it and rd be stuck with all 20 of them for three days and three nights. We can do without being stuck in the house with no power for 48 hours and up to the eyeballs in snow. That never happens when you have a stocked larder--only when you had planned to grocery shop that day and now your car is frozen dead and even if it could move, the roads are impassible. NooDLE BAKE Helene Debowsky 4 cup chopped onion 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup, diluted with I/2 can milk I/4 teaspoon paprika salt and pepper to taste 6 oz. Swiss cheese, sliced 1/3 cup buttered crumbs 8 oz. spinach noodles, cooked Saute onions until lightly browned. Stir in diluted soup, paprika, salt and pepper. Cook 3 or 4 minutes, stirring until blended. In a well-greased baking dish, alternate layers of cooked spinach  noodles, cheese, and cream sauce (make 3 or 4 layers). Sprinkle bread crumbs over top. Bake at 350 degrees for about 20-30 minutes. Cut crust off bread and flatten each piece with a rolling pin. Spread cheese mixture on each slice of bread and roll up. Cut each in half. Melt margarine. Mix together remaining V2 cup sugar and cinnamon. Dip rolled bread into margarine, then into sugar-cinnamon mixture. Bake at 350 degrees until hot. Makes 100 blintzes. Passover is almost upon us.
