Koster and performed the well received a demand second JENNIFER KOSTER and RON VIERLING in their local production of "Love Letters." Love Letters, a two charac- ter play written by A.R. Gur- ney opened on Broadway in 1989. In its run on Broadway many famous stars took turns performing the play for a week at a time. Robards and Dewhurst performed opening night and for the next week. They were followed by a pa- rade of successful actors in- cluding, Stockard Channing, the First Lady on West Wing, Jane Curtin from Saturday Night Live and Third Rock from the Sun, Edward Herrmann, Timothy Hutton, Swoosie Kurtz, Nancy Marchand, Elizabeth McGovern, Lynn Redgrave, CliffRobertson, ElaineStritch, Robert Vaugh (Man from Uncle), and Fritz Weaver. Love Letters is the moving, funny and ultimately power- ful story of the life long friend- ship between a rich alcoholic artist and a straight arrow who becomes a United States sena- tor, told in the letters they write to each other starting when they are children. Through the letters the au- dience learns of the charac- ters relationships with their families, their careers, and each other. The play adroitly uses laugher to poke fun at universal human foibles. The middle school teachers and parents in attendance we re awed at the professional qual- ity of the performance. Steve Selznick, who volunteers as Yearbook Advisor at the Selznick Middle School has dreams of taking the show on the road, perhaps to the Or- lando Shakespeare Theater, where it can be appreciated by a much larger audience. The evening of fine theater was preceded by a wine and cheese reception and capped offwith coffee and dessert. Not only was the evening a theatri- cal and culinary success but those in attendance contrib- uted a substantial amount to underwrite the costs of the eighth grade graduating class spring trip toWashington, D.C. and the seventh grade trip to Savannah. The eighth grade trip will culminate the year's curriculum in Holocaust stud- ies and American government. "This evening is a perfect example of the sense of com- munity, excellence and fun which are all hallmarks of the Selznick Middle School," com- mented Randa Marder, princi- pal of the middle school. She Continued, "The students will continue working to raise funds to defray the costs of the trip." Stay tuned for upcoming fund raising efforts, including on- going Friday afternoon car pool line sales of donuts and flow- ers; a car wash, and a talent show, Purimspiel (The Wizard of Oz in Hebrew) and silent auction'on Sunday, March 16. "Earl is relieved that the matter is behind him," Werksman said. "He didn't want to plead guilty, but the political climate today is not hospitable for defending a domestic terrorist case." Rubin, Krugei's alleged co- conspirator, committed sui- cide last November at a fed- eral detention center, ac- cording to prison authori- ties. Rubin's family has filed a $5 million wrongful death claim against the U.S. gov- ernment. Werksman said Rubin's death "knocked the wind out of Krugel." Both men were arrested in December 2001 after a third participant re- ported the plot to the FBI. Outside the downtown courthouse, Rubin's wife and son, joined by other sup- porters, held up signs de- nouncing Krugel as a "rat" for implicating Rubin in the plot. years The JDL's Web site charged that Krugel had "falsely accused Rubin of directing the conspiracy." Though he remained in the shadow of the high profile and articulate Rubin, Krugel was a familiar fig- ure at street demonstra- tions. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked as a dental assistant. In a statement, U.S. At- torney General John Ashcroft said, "As this suc- cessful prosecution makes clear, acts of terror targeted at individuals because of their race, religion or na- tional origin will not be tol- erated in the United States." U.S. Attorney Debra Yang, whose office prosecuted the case, said, "I hope that today's guilty pleas help to demonstrate to this nation's Muslim and Arab Americans that we will investigate and prosecute terrorist acts di- rected against them, just as we investigate and prosecute terrorist acts directed at other minority groups." nting Newspapers Bulletins Catalogs Advertising Flyers Books Resumes Magazines (407) 834-1741
