This is why three- s are People the bride and groom do not know. Many of these are relatives neither the bride nor groom knew existed. In Halakhah (Jewish law), these people are called "wedding relatives." It is forbidden to interact with such relatives except at the wedding of one's children. Also, the best piece of advice I can give to any young man and woman who are about to marry is this: "The first 38 years are the hardest! Everything is downhill after that. EVERYTHING!" In fact, I gave this very bit of advice to two wonderful people who will be marrying next month. Read on. In honor of Valentine's Day Here's a love story that begs the question, isn't young love beautiful? Just ask ZANDRA KAUFMAN and DORIS PINES, mothers of the beautiful bride to be, MELISSA KAUFMAN, and her hand- some groom, LARRY PINES. They can tell you what the glow in their children's eyes tell them! A surprise bridal shower was hosted by Doris, with help from Larry's sisters, IVY WOLFE and EMILY PINES. It was held for Melissa on Sunday, Jan. 19, at the lovely Celebration Hotel in Celebration, Florida. Of course, Larry knew about it but never let on. He and Melissa live in San Francisco and flew here for the event. He used a bogus 50th anniversary party as the excuse. Melissa believed it and even went as far as to buy the "50th anniversary couple" a beautiful gift! What a surprise to see her mother, aunt, relatives and friends from New York, as well as Larry's Morn, relatives and friends, gathered together in the hotel party room yelling "SURPRISE[" Among the many shower gifts the young couple received that day was the one that Melissa and Larry bought for the make- believe anniversary! Now, fora little background on the couple and how theymet: Many of you know that Larry was raised right here, the son of Doris and the late Edward Pines of Winter Park. Mter graduating from prestigious Princeton University, Larry and a fellow graduate formed a partnership in a company that deals in the world of finance. It is located in San Francisco where Larry has made his home for the past few years. In the meantime, Melissa was a New Yorker who graduated from FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology), a school foremost in the field of fashion. Melissa is a talented artist. "Sonu? With three thousand miles between them," you ask, "how did they meet?" (I'll tell you!) Larry's lovely cousin, TARA GORDON, just happens to be Melissa's best friend for years. And for the longest time she has been telling everyone that her cousin, Larry, and her best friend, Melissa, would be just perfect for each other. Knowing both of them very well, she was completely con- vinced of it! Finally, they paid heed and started to email one another. The rest, as they say, is "history." After a short correspondence, they made plans to meet in person and BINGO[ As a result, Melissa now lives in San Francisco, where the couple will make their home after their March 22 wedding in Garden City, New York. Now, I told you that Melissa was a talented artist. But who knew her morn, Zandra, was a lyricist? Quick, get your kazoos and hum to the tune of "The Brady Bunch." "Here's astory of a man named Larry, who was busy making money on the coast, Hewas one man having a great time, yet he was all alone, Till one day Tara told him about Melissa, and he knew just what he had to do, He would meet his lovely princess, and together they would make their dreams come true." (I'm skipping the chorus in the interest of space) Here's a story of sweet Melissa, who was busy with a career of her own.
