HERITAGE FLORIDA JEWISH NEWS, JANUARY 30, 2009 PAGE 9A By Gloria Yousha -- Call 407-657-9405 or 407-834-8787 1 How ~xciting was it?... For me, it was just overwhelming. I cried and now I can only pray that our new president does well. / He is walking into so many problems that I wonder why he or anyone would want to become president at this time? The secret is, I guess, that he is counting on all of us to do our part. So how can I help? I am willing and most of the time, able. When Irv and I went to Western Europe recently, it seemed that everyone hated our president. We heard this in London: "We have nothing against Americans, but we dislike Bush and his policies and PreMdent Barack Obama because Prime Minister Blair likes him, he has to go also." We card this in Paris: "We dislike Americans in general but w~ really hate your president." We!heard this in Lake Lucerne, Switzerland: "We love AmeriCans but we don't like your choice for president." We heard this in Venice, Florence, Pisa and Rome: "We have nothing against Americans ,but your choice of a president and his wars are terrible." NoW, I understand that Europe and the rest of the world is waiting and hoping for change from President Obama, and I hope l~e can deliver. As [have already said, I am ready and (most of the time) able to do my part. God Bless America! One of our sons is in Washington, D.C. right now... He, like many of us, wanted to be part of history. Irv and I, like many of us, decided not to freeze our backsides off and stayed home to watch on television. My ~on was given hospitality by a family that frequents Central Florida often. They have many family members here arid al~ their parents purchased a winter home. They are ELANA, RICH, DAVID and SARAH PLOTNICK of Fairfax, Va. (Being a dog lover, I want to mention their wonderful dog, Mallory as well.) Plotnick family L-R: top: Elana and Rich, bottom row: David and Sarah. Rich's dad also has an apartment in the prestigious Water- gate Complex in D.C., and that is where they all stayed for the inauguration. What a kick! I am writing this column just one day after the inaugura- tion, parades, balls, etc. I am still on cloud nine. It has been very cold here in Central Florida lately... But when the sun comes out, it is just glorious. We are very lucky to live here. Our lakes are so charming and the best way toenjoy them is to take the Winter Park Scenic Boat Ride, no matter what the weather. Just enjoy gliding by towering cypress, tropi- cal birds and magnificent mansions for only $10, adults; $5, children 2-11. You can find the Scenic Boat Rides, which last about an hour, at the foot of East Morse Boulevard in Winter Park. Phone them at 407-644-4056 for exact directions and hours. Relax and enjoy! Speaking of romance... Were we speaking of romance? I don't remember! Anyway...the Altamonte Jazz Ensemble, Under the direc- tion of my buddy, MIKE ARENA, will hold a Valentine Big Band Dance on Sunday, Feb. 15 from 7-10 p.m. (It is just one day past Valentine's Day.) The dance will be held at the Eastmonte Civic Center, 830 Magnolia Drive (off Ronald Reagan Boulevard), Altamonte Springs. The admission is still only $5 per person at the door. If you love to dance to the music of Tommy Dorsey, Stan Kenton, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basle, and more, this is the place to be. Wonderful singer, LINDA COLE, will perform as well. Ladies, It's time for your dancing shoes and twirly dresses. For more information, call 407-322-7528. This was sent to me by my cousins Ben and Ann... There is a new wine for seniors. California vinters in the Napa Valley area, which pri- marily produce Pinot, Blanc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Grigio wines, have developed a new hybrid grape that acts as an anti-diuretic. It is expected to reduce the number of trips older people have to make to the bathroom during the night. The new wine will be marketed as Pino More. (I just heard it through the grapevine and thought I should pass it on to you.) Some folks call it the best musical ever... It is certainly among the best! A Chorus Line will be coming to the Bob Carr Per- forming Arts Center from Feb. 10 through Feb. 15. The singular sensation that is A Chorus Line, winner of nine Tony Awards and countless accolades, continues to captivate audiences more than 30 years after its Broadway debut. It is the story of 17 dancers vying for a chance of a life- time, to dance in the chorus of a Broadway show. Suntrust Broadway Across America, Orlando, and the Florida Theatrical Association bring this wonderful musi- cal to town for all of us to enjoy. The music is unforgettable. For instance, "What I did For Love," "I Hope I Get it," and "| Can Do That." Composer Marvin Hamlich is at his best. For ticket information, call 800-950-4647or log onto Remember the Beatles?... Could you ever forget them? All Beatles fans will be thrilledto know that Yesterday... Beatles Tribute will open at the Wayne Densch Performing Arts Center for one performance only on Feb. 7. Take a musical journey to a by-gone era of peace, love and innocence with the No. 1 Beatles tribute act in the world! For further information, call the box office at 407-321- 8111. One for the road... Paul and Bernard are out enjoying themselves one af- ternoon on a lake when their boat started sinking. Bernard said to Paul, "So listen, Paul, I have a problem, you know I don't swim at all well." But luckily, Paul remembered how to carry another swimmer from his lifeguard class years ago when he was just a youngster and so he began pulling Bernard towards safety. After 15 minutes of this, however, Paul began to grow quite tired. All his energy had left him. And finally, just 100 feet from land, Paul asked Bernard, "So Bernard, do you suppose you could float alone?" Bernard replied, "Paul, this is a hell of a time to be ask- ing about money!" One more for the road... Four young novice nuns were about to take their vows. Dressed in their white gowns, they came into the chapel where the Mother Superior was waiting to perform the ceremony to marry them to Jesus. Just as the ceremony was about to begin, four Chassidic Jews with yarmulkes, long sideburns and long beards, carrying siddurs, came in and sat in the front row. The Mother Superior said to them, "I am honored that you would want to share this experience with us, but do you mind if I ask you why you came?" One of the four Jews replied, "We're from the groom's side."
