HERITAGE FLORIDA JEWISH NEWS, JANUARY 18, 2013 PAGE 9. A. By Gloria Yousha -- Call 407-657-9405 or 407-834-8787 mmm Always proud... This article comes directly from The World Jewish Con- gress Digest (with asides by me): "The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, in split deci- sions, has awarded Nobel prizes to two Jewish scientists who were co-winners in separate disciplines. Jewish American, ALVIN ROTH took co-honors in the economic sciences along with his American colleague, LLOYD SHAPLEY. The physics award went to a French Jewish scientist, SERGE HAROCHE, 68, and his fellow researcher, DAVID WINELAND from the U.S. Each pair of laureates will share in the $1.2 million bounty that accompanies the distinguished prizes." (I'm very proud of our people... Americans... and, es- pecially, Jewish Americans!) "The 60 year old Roth, a professor at Harvard University's Business School, was recognized, along with Shapley, for groundbreaking work on marker design and match- ing theory, which is said to have major implications for improving world marker performance. The two have academic associations with Israel's stellar research institutions as visiting professors and honor- ary degree holders, Haroche, of College de France and Ecole Norrnale Superieure, collaborated with Wineland on advances in quantum systems, delving into micro- measurements of ions and photons that were once thought to be theoretical entities." (And to that, I say "What does it all mean? But... I'm still proud!) Mistakes can be fun... In spite of my laryngitis, I, my cousin, singer EDDIE VAZZ, and musicians, SYL LAFATA, MICHAEL KRAMER and KENNYWATSON performed jazz for the Congregation Ohev Shalom Seniors group last week, There is nothing like live music.., a live performance with no rehearsal (like most jazz sessions) and the excitement of knowing anything can happen. Eddie never performed with these musicians before and I haven't for many years... but when it comes to jazz, no rehearsal is necessary. Even when I'm performing in foreign countries, when it comes to jazz, everything is understood.., and if mistakes are made, so what? (I do want to thank former Rosie O'Grady original Red Hot Mama, TERRY LAMOND for her good advice. She told me to absolutely shut up for a couple of days before the performance to save my voice. My spouse wants to thank her too! He says, "Life was so peaceful for two days!") More about live music... On Sunday, Feb. 3, in the Congregation Ohev Shalom ballroom, the COS Seniors will have their next meeting and musical performance. Once again, the music will be live, which makes the show much more exciting! Featured will be LENNY MORGAN of Orlando Island Party (Reggae Party) who will provide you, he says, "wit de real island vibes mon!" He brings quality live music, energy and excitement to the COS ballroom. The show begins at 2 p.m. sharp. No reservations are needed. And refreshments will be served! Once again, the cost of all this pleasure is only $5, for COS Senior members; $8 for all others. For any questions or directions, you can phone COS Seniors president, BERNY RAFF at 407-767-6763 or you can phone COS at 40%298-4650. Bring your friends! Remember "Your Show of Shows"?... I do. I remember some of the best laughs I ever had from a television show.., and now: Mad Cow Theatre is thrilled to announce the cast fox Laughter on the 23rd Floor, written by Nell Simon. The production will be in Mad Cow's Harriett Theatre. A laugh-out-loud comedy, Laughter on the 23rd Floor is Neil Simon's semi-autobiographical take on the memories of his work on SID CAESAR's "Your Show of Shows." Set in 1953, it provides a hilarious behind-the-scenes peek at the "Max Prince Show" as a talented group of writers struggles to work together through each other's neuroses, egos and nonstop jokes to create some of televii- sion's classic comedic moments. Laughter on the 23rd Floor will feature some of the finest actors Orlando has to offer and will be directed by DAVID RUSSELL. It runs from Jan. 25 to Feb. 17 at Mad Cow Theatre, 54 West Church Street in Downtown Orlando. There will be preview performances on Jan. 23 and 24. Tickets are available online at madcowtheatre.com and by calling the Mad Cow Theatre box office at 407-297-8788 xl. A most important evening... On Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 7:30 p.m., an Interfaith Com- munity Event will be held, presented by Congregation Beth Am and Congregation of Reform Judaism. World renowned Rabbi HAROLD S. KUSHNER, author of "When Bad Things Happen To Good People" will be guest speaker. Rabbi Kushner is widely known for his book "When Bad Things Happen To Good People," which has sold millions of copies in 14 languages across the globe. He is the au- thor of more than a dozen books on coping with life's challenges. Everyone is invited to attend. Tickets are $25, general admission; $10, stu- dents; $50, reserved seating; $1,000, patron. The event will be held at Congregation of Re- form Judaism, 928 Malone Drive, Orlando, 32810. To purchase tickets and for more information, phone 407-645-0444, 407- 862-3505 or go online to <www, KushnerInOrlando. com> One for the road... Rabbi Harold S. Kushner It's the anniversary of Bernie Gold's death and Sadie, his widow, goes to the cemetery to clean his grave, read a prayer and then place a small stone on the marble, as is the tradition, to show that the deceased is remembered. But because she hadn't visited his grave for some years, Sadie cannot find Bernie's resting place and has to ask an attendant for help. He escorts her to the cemetery office where all the records are kept. He made her a cup of coffee and then spent time look- ing at maps and lists. After 30 minutes, he finally turned to Sadie and said, "I can find no record of a Bernie Gold buried at this cemetery. Are you sure he is here? All I can find is the grave of Sadie Gold." "That's him!" Sadie shouted out. "Bernie always put everything in my name."
